Use and Administration

Adult : IV/IM Susceptible infections 1 g once daily, increased to 2-4 g/day as a single dose in severe infections. Prophylaxis of surgical infections 1 or 2 g may be given 0.5 to 2 hours prior to surgery via deep IM inj or slow IV inj over at least 2-4 minutes. IM Uncomplicated gonorrhoea 250-500 mg as a single dose.

Intramuscular
Uncomplicated gonorrhoea
Adult: 250-500 mg as a single dose.

Parenteral
Prophylaxis of surgical infections
Adult: 1 or 2 g may be given 0.5 to 2 hours prior to surgery via deep IM inj or slow IV inj over at least 2-4 minutes.

Parenteral
Susceptible infections
Adult: 1 g once daily via deep IM inj or slow IV inj over at least 2-4 min, intermittent IV infusion over at least 30 min, increased to 2-4 g daily as a single dose in severe infections.
Child: ≤12 yr 20-50 mg/kg once daily increased to 80 mg/kg in severe infections. Doses ≥50 mg/kg should be given as IV infusion over at least 30 min. Max: 50 mg/kg daily via IV infusion over 60 min (neonates).
